ERMA Tool Help
MAP TOOLBAR
The Toolbar appears in the upper left of the map. When one button is active, the inactive tools are transparent and not available. Click the active button again to allow access to other tools.
- Navigation Controls

Pan map North, South, East, and West
- Zoom Level Control

Zoom in and out
- Magnify Glass Icon

Zooms into specific area on map; when this tool is selected, other tools will disappear on the map.
- Hand Icon

Pans around map. Default mode needed to use other tools (such as Identify or Measurement)
- Identify
-
Click on icon to turn on identify tool and then click a point on the map to get information about the layers that are currently on. Information will be displayed below the map.
- Measurement Line

Click on icon to turn on the line measurement tool and then click a point on the map. Continue clicking on map to measure total distance on a line by placing point vertices. To end the line that is being measured double click on the point.
- Measurement Polygon

Click on icon to turn on the polygon measurement tool and then click a point on the map. Continue clicking on map at vertices of interest to measure the area of the desired polygon. To stop making the polygon, double click on the last vertices.
LAYER
- Shows full Table of Contents (TOC) for available data Categories and Layers.
- Click on the "plus" to expand folders, click on the "minus" to close.
- Click on the square box to turn the layer on
- The "Background" contains a list of radio buttons which are used to set the background. The current options are Open Street Map, Google Roads, Google Satellite, Google Hybrid, and Google Terrain.
- Click on the layer name to open metadata in a new window
- Right Click on the layer name to open either open meta data or Zoom to Extent
- Zoom to extent adjusts the zoom of the map window to show the full extent of data found in a specific layer. This feature only functions on static layers and will appear grey and cannot be selected for these layer types.
- Click "reload" to reload the layer list only.
- "Clear" Turns off all layers within a folder; "All" turns on all layers within a folder
Movie Icon plays a movie file depicting that layer's information
PDF icon Opens PDF file for that layer
- To learn about a specific layer's attributes, click on the identity button and then click on the feature of interest. Its results will appear below the map.
LEGEND
- Shows legend for active layers
ESI Tool Tab
- Click on the Create Polygon button to create a new polygon for the area you'd like to analyze.
- Click on the Run Table Tool button to bring up the ESI options, such as Biological layers and Months of Interest. Choose the option that you'd like to analyze.
- Click on the Run ESI Tool to produce a report. It will show the Resources at Risk, size of your area of interest, State or Federally protected, Threatened or Endangered, and presence for selected months.
- Click on the excel or CSV links to download the results in file format.
* Note the ESI tool can be runs best with ares smaller than 50 square miles, large areas may take time to process.
Zoom - Zoom To
There are two ways to zoom to particular locations in ERMA.
- Zoom to (Lat / Lon):
- Enter a known Latitude and Longitude in decimal degrees (ex. 18.384, -65.655)
- Select a zoom scale from 1 (zoomed far out) to 19 (zoomed in close)
- Click the GO button.
- A black X will appear in the lat/long location
- Zoom to (Place):
- Enter the name of a geographic location and click the Find It! button.
